Why study in Australia?

All the reasons why you should pack your bags and study down under

When it comes to applying for uni or college, few people think outside of the UK. Those that do may look into studying in America but the cost will usually turn people off that idea. Very few people consider studying in Australia, maybe because it’s on the other side of the world or maybe because people are unaware that you can. Most of the people I have met since I returned from my studies in Oz have said ‘I didn’t know you could do that’ or ‘I would have done that if I had known’. Well, people are now becoming more aware of the possibilities, last year 1300 students from the UK made the choice to study down under, in total there are currently 180,000 international students in Oz.

Australia - the place

Australia is a beautiful country with so much to offer, numerous gorgeous beaches, the weather, the people, it is a completely different way of life. Compare student life in England to student life in Australia and you will realise there is a huge difference. Australia and it’s people are so laid back and you quickly fall in love with the country and it’s outdoor living! Okay so it’s not all about having fun... is it? You are there to learn, but you don’t have to commit to a three year course, there are a whole range of study options on offer.

Experience something new

Not only will you have the experience of living in another country that is about as far away as you can get from home, but with it you will experience the completely different way of life. Forget the dread of getting up in the morning in a freezing cold student house and think of waking up to a stream of sunshine coming through your window, jumping out of bed and strolling down to the beach for a morning surf before classes start! It’s not a dream, but the reality of living and studying in Australia! You will meet many people throughout your studies from all nationalities and backgrounds, which can be useful when embarking on future travels!

Climate

People who have not visited Australia think that it is sunny all year round, but whilst you can travel around this vast country (which is 33 times the size of the UK) and grab some rays all year round, it does get cold! The seasons are opposite of those of the UK so expect Christmas on the beach in temperatures ranging bewteen 20 and 35 degrees with a barbie a few tinnies and in the winter (June/July) expect to replace those boardies and t-shirts for something a bit warmer - you might even think about heading off to Snowy Mountains for a spot of snowboarding!

Sports

If you love your sport you will love Australia. They are absolutely mad for it! There is so much on offer and because of the climate there is something to do all year round. The majority of the institutions will have sports facilities and clubs that you can join, so get involved and show the Aussies what we can do!

Spending some time living and studying in Australia will most definitely change your life, it is a one off experience. It will leave you will countless memories and a lasting love of the people and place, that no doubt you return to in years to come.
