Approximately 50% of our volunteers are non-UK based, with a large number of volunteers from North America, Europe and Australia. Our volunteers have a good level of general education and are enthusiastic, culturally aware, adaptable and highly motivated. Tanzania is one of the most beautiful and politically stable countries in East Africa. It borders Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda and Mozambique and contains some of Africa's finest game reserves (Ngorongoro, Serengeti) as well as the roof of Africa: Mount Kilimanjaro.Tanzania is by far our biggest programme for MondoChallenge, with more volunteers, more locations and a wider range of opportunities than any other country. We offer two main types of programme… Volunteers can get involved with teaching in primary and secondary schools and in adult classes in the Arusha region - in the shadows of Mount Meru - as well as other wonderful programmes with the Maasai in Longido, on the coast at Pangani and in the beautiful Pare Mountains. The business development programmes in Arusha are very well established, where volunteers can help with small businesses and micro-finance alongside the Tanzania Capital Boosting Association (TCBA) and assist with the HOPE Trust in Ngaramtoni, helping families of HIV/AIDS sufferers with a grants scheme to help regain livelihoods. Our users say... "The staff and students welcomed me and the children did really well. Kikokwe in general is a small, happy school; the teachers are kind and the children enthusiastic" - Becky Young.
